From now on until mid July 2023, Van Cleef&Arpels held an exhibition themed “Nature in Gold” at the 1906 salon of the flagship store of Shanghai National Gold Center, showcasing multiple museum collections of exquisite works. The exhibits are all inspired by nature, paired with gold and diamonds as the main materials, reviewing the gold jewelry art styles of the family from the 1900s to the 1990s.
The ‘natural world’ is one of the most important sources of inspiration since Van Cleef&Arpels was founded in 1906- touching themes such as butterflies and birds, plants and flowers, and poetic fairies showcase the appreciation and respect of the family towards nature. This exhibition features “flowers and plants” as the design element, showcasing the vitality of nature and the moving rhythm of the four seasons.
This exhibition presents a total of 7 antique jewelry exhibits, the most notable of which is an Eucalyptus Seeds necklace designed and made in 1966, consisting of 34 gold “eucalyptus seeds” strung together – the designer pounded and forged the gold to create a rough and undulating texture. The vivid and three-dimensional eucalyptus seeds are densely embedded with bright round diamonds on one side, creating a primitive and dynamic visual impact.
The Chantilly necklace, made in 1950, consists of tightly arranged “flowers”, with round diamonds and rubies transformed into stamens. The gold petals are meticulously polished and shine brightly, while the hollow structure creates a lightweight and transparent visual effect; You can also see a 1963 Grappes gold bracelet, which uses gold carving techniques to reproduce the natural texture of grape vines, and is inlaid with gradually decreasing round diamonds, resembling a vivid grape string.
This exhibition also includes a 1951 Oak leaves wristwatch, featuring a gold bracelet carved into a layered oak leaf shape using a concrete artistic technique. The embellishments include magnificent round rubies, sapphires, and dynamic diamonds resembling oak fruits, capturing the vitality and vitality of nature.
