On May 16th, Sotheby’s Geneva will auction off a rare 11.16ct water droplet shaped colorful blue diamond called “Laguna Blu”, which is set in a BVLGARI designed ring with an estimated value of over $25 million. This is not only the largest blue diamond embedded in BVLGARI’s work to date, but also the most valuable gemstone.
This 11.16ct blue diamond is cut in a traditional water droplet shape and has been identified by GIA as a Type IIb diamond, achieving Fancy Vivid Blue color and VS1 clarity levels.
BVLGARI was commissioned by a private collector in the 1970s to customize and design a ring for this blue diamond, adorned with trapezoidal cut diamonds on each side to set off the bright and clear blue hues of the main stone.
On May 1, 2023, “Laguna Blu” made its first public appearance at the Met Gala Fashion Festival, worn by Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas. At that time, this blue diamond was inlaid as a pendant in a BVLGARI platinum necklace. The design inspiration of the necklace was from the laurel wreath worn by the emperor in ancient Rome. It was inlaid with custom cut stepped, olive pointed and round diamonds, honoring the brand’s origins in Roman history.
