BMW has released a new teaser of the second-generation M2 ahead of its expected October 11 debut.
Our spy photographers have filmed a lot of M2 tests in recent months, and the car in this teaser is one of those camouflaged prototypes. However, it doesn’t feel like an entry-level sports car version.
As expected, BMW seems to have developed a lot of M Performance parts for the car and this prototype rocks some of those parts. The most obvious accessory is a large, fixed rear wing that will help ensure the car isn’t mistaken for a standard 2 Series coupe. Additionally, we see this prototype sporting a similar center-quad stacked exhaust system that the M4 offers through its M Performance Parts division. Although it looks a little too “unoriginal” for our taste, it is certainly impressive.
Looks aside, the new BMW M2 is expected to be powered by the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine as the M3, albeit with a power offset of around 450bhp. Customers can choose between a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission with power sent to the rear wheels. The xDrive all-wheel drive system will not be available at launch, but may be added to the lineup at a later date.
The BMW Blog has learned that the new M2 will be available in several different colors including Zandvoort Blue, Toronto Red, Brooklyn Gray and Black Sapphire. A wide range of BMW Individual colors will also be available.
The original M2 is still one of the best sports cars produced in the last decade, so BMW will be forced to make the new model even better.
